Alpha in the Workplace

Shining God’s light in the workplace

We spend an average of forty hours a week with our colleagues, and you can only talk about your plans for the weekend and the weather for so long. Why not discuss things that really matter?

What is Alpha?

Alpha is a place to explore the Christian faith with others. It is a low-pressure environment to discuss the big questions in life.
It is a series of interactive sessions focused on life, faith and meaning, typically run over eleven weeks. Alpha is run all around the globe, in cafés, churches, schools, universities, homes, prisons — you name it.
Running Alpha in the workplace can be integrated easily into a regular working day. It can be run in an hour during lunch, before the start or at the end of a workday.

Every Alpha session has three key ingredients

Connect

Whether in person over a meal or virtually with a cup of tea, all sessions start with a time to connect, relax and build friendships.

Watch

The Alpha talks are designed to inspire conversation. They explore the big issues of life and faith and meaning.

Discuss

One of the most important parts of any Alpha is the discussion time. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say.

Running Alpha in the Workplace empowers Christian professionals and employees to be effective witnesses wherever they work. There is a growing spiritual hunger in the workplace. Work commitments are keeping people in the office for longer hours. Many of the people you work with might never willingly go to church on their own, but are looking for an opportunity to discuss matters of meaning and faith.

“Nearly two out of five young adults globally are dealing with weak levels of connection. For many of these young people, the workplace is the new church. It is where they are finding their social connections.”

Barna Research, Faith for the Future

From large multinational companies, to small creative studios, working adults from various industries and denominations worldwide are running Alpha in boardrooms, meeting rooms and cafeterias. The potential for running Alpha in the workplace is unlimited.

Haagen’s Story
Frustrated by not being able to pursue her career, Haagen struggled to cope with the demands of motherhood and marriage. In desperation, she turned to a dusty old Bible gifted to her by a friend. This led to a journey of discovering more about life, faith and meaning through Alpha… and ultimately taking Alpha with her back to the workplace.
“I felt God asking me to run Alpha in my workplace. I didn’t have a team or know who to invite but I submitted everything to prayer. God started to bring me people and I have since run Alpha in my workplace, seeing my friends come to faith!”
