Africa has the largest population of young people in the world. 70% of the 1.2 billion people in Sub-Saharan Africa are under the age of 30. The median age of the population is only 19 years. Globally, Africa is also the only region with an increasing youth population, which makes reaching the youth with the Good News of Jesus increasingly critical.

The Open Generation Research
In 2021, Alpha and a collective of organizations came alongside Barna Group to listen to the perspectives of young people around the world. The research shows that this generation is open and inclusive, seeking truth, authenticity and change. Today’s teens welcome different perspectives, faiths and cultures, and are deeply passionate about addressing injustice. There is a current of curiosity about Jesus and the Bible, and how it connects to the purpose and pain of everyday people.
The aggregated data profiles teens as optimistic, engaged, malleable, curious, authentic, inclusive and collaborative. Barna dubs them the Open Generation.

Alpha Youth Talks Africa is a video series adapted from the global Alpha Youth scripts, presented by African voices. The content mirrors the current Alpha Youth series, so you can still expect 13 episodes, with the same theological content and discussion questions. The fresh African presentation makes this series a powerful tool for engaging in more evangelism conversations with young people across our continent.
